I'm going to take this in a different direction. What kind of guitar? Middle of the road I say. Regardless if it's nylon, acoustic, or electric, get something in the middle of the road. Don't buy a $99 guitar as it will be junk, hard to play and won't stay in tune. If you don't stick with playing you'll do well to give it away. Conversely, don't run out and buy a $1000+ guitar. Sure it'll probably have fantastic playability and darn sure better stay in tune, but if you don't stick with playing guitar and try to sell it later you'll take a hit on it because it's now used. Get something in the $250 - $500 range. Plenty of quality guitars in that range and you should be able to get half of what you paid for it if you try to sell it later provided you take care of it. And if this guitar playing sticks, you can always step up later. Just trying to give some practical advice.

Had it and sold it on Ebay. Didn't care for it. The problem with most packaged guitar lessons is the content. All will teach the basics and there will be songs taught to help reinforce these basics and to get you playing. Here's the problem. The makers of these lessons do not want to pay royalties to musicians for using their songs in the lessons. Therefor the songs in the lessons are really old public domain songs. This set you are looking at taught Bethoven's "Ode to Joy", the Star Spangled Banner, etc, you get the idea. If this doesn't bother you, go for it. Personally, I wanted more contemporary songs in the lesson plan.
