Whats wrong with Jerry Garcia? I dont listen to much of his music but I do like his guitar playing alone, and Aerosmith is just probally one of the worst bands to hit radio land and seeing that I found joe perry is there guitar player...

Jerry Garcia is an ok guitarist but again, I don't believe he ranks along with some of the others on here like Zakk Wylde, of whom I gave another vote to.

I gotta agree (IMO, YMMV) - Aerosmith is FAR from being amongst the worst bands that ever hit radio. Perry gets another point.

If given a choice between listening to Aerosmith/Joe Perry and the Dead/Jerry Garcia, it would be a no-brainer for me.....not even a decision process involved. Garcia loses another point because he's out of his league in this group.


P.S. to Neil - "Toys In The Attic" ranks among my top all-time albums.....I think that was their best cut ever. Other albums had some great songs on them, but "Toys" was the best overall collective effort.

Brian May gets another point because he's got the best chops of any axeman in this list.....much versatility, and seems to get great tone no matter what.

Garcia loses another one for the same reasons as above....he's obviously not universally considered a bad guitarist, judging by his fan base and the number of albums they sold/tours they sold out - just not my cup of tea.

Took away a vote from Glenn Campbell 'cause although he plays guitar, I just don't think he's as good as others on this list. Gave one to Brian May, because he has proven over the years what an amazing guitarist he really is. For eg, take a listen to the solos in Killer Queen, and Bohemian Rhapsody.

Took another from Glen because I think "The Man In Black" is a better country guitarist and they're the only two of that genre in this poll.

Gave another one to Brian because the boy has tone for MILES!!! In addition to the great songs Neil listed, check out his work in something like "Dragon Attack", then listen to "You're My Best Friend", then "Spread Your Wings"......then queue up "Sheer Heart Attack" - he can cover all the bases.

Gave point to Keith 'cause he can !!! He taught Chuck everthing he knows. (did you see the movie???)

Removed a point from Glen because although he can play guitar, he just doesn't fit into the same category as some of the others like Brian May (of whom I added a point to) who certainly does play and play VERY well.

I said it before, and I'll say it again. As much as I love him, Johnny Cash simply isn't in Glen Campbell's league as a guitar player. I bet even Johnny would have agreed with that.

Kirk Hammet is certainly one of the better players IMO, and for all the known reasons Garcia doesn't match up to the rest. :)
