i've changed my recording set-up/approach in the last day or two, i was just recording directly into my Boss BR864 8-track recorder, and using the drum patterns on there, however programming changes to the beats is a hassle, and i'd really have to give up two of the eight tracks to programme beats with changes for a full song, i have Cubase 5 and EZdrummer plug-in on my laptop, but haven't really been using it, i had issues with crashes etc.......i re-installed both programmes, and got them working........for a wee while at least.......lol

i built a drum track, and sent that to my 8-track as a wav file, this sync's the timing to the 8-track
when i used Ezdrummer before, i sent tracks from my 8-track to Cubase, which meant i had recorded guitars to one beat, then changed the beat after i sent the tracks to Cubase, and i felt i was losing a bit of the feel
this way i've recorded the finished beat and played guitars to that beat......this will be my test song

for this song i had an idea for overall feel, but the song started with a beat, as opposed to chords or lyrics
i've recorded guitars, set the structure, and got most of the lyrics sorted............i still need about four lines to finish the lyrics
so i thought i'd come on here, rabbit on a wee bit, write the lyrics out and maybe get inspired to finish the lyrics.....lol.....or if anybody has any ideas.......fire away........

I know I have the strength (inside) to find - depends how many syllables you need - or
I need to find my strength and know which way to go
A way to live and find my place in this cold/lonely/ world/hard times - some alternatives to choose from

problem = the word 'find' twice in 2 lines -does it matter?

There are a few alternatives to mix and match. No worries if you don't want to use these lyrics - I'll have another try if you don't like these.

I'm having trouble with the fonts, they won't behave proper....

Hey Carol, thanks for the ideas .......i did however get another few lines written........... i quite like "reach out for my hopes" as a change tho

i had a go at recording the vocal for this.............guitars etc.. too

it's quite a simple idea 2 or 3 chords depending how you look at it......lol....F and A# .......a sixteen (i think) bar pattern repeated four times, with the last two building up slightly, guitar break on the last sixteen bars
the basic idea is starting with a simple chord and arpeggio combination/variation to give structure and define different parts....split that idea into two tracks one lightly strumming the chords and another coming in with the arpeggio, just picking any old pattern from the chord, i added a simple bassline too, then a third guitar on the third sixteen bars just strumming the chord for a subtle lift and wee bit extra definition, and a guitar break on the last sixteen bars.........and the vocals

still need to work on the vocals to get the words out right

This is great Paul, I really like it - love the jangle - and I much prefer the more subtle drum track - not the heavy in-your-face thwak, thwak that people often use. Kick drum? I'm clueless when it comes to drums...and one or two other things too, but don't tell anyone.

whats the crack paul. class song i enjoyed that you sound like a pro and the solo is deadly (soulfull ) i never enjoy 1000's of notes thrown in an saying nothing that was perfect.
hows the band going?

cheers Carol, Eddie and Micky - same old same old, keepin out of trouble i departed the band a while back, for a few reasons.........enjoying being solo for know.........


Ezdrummer has great drum sounds, it's easy to create beats and structure them for a full song, and there are loads of expansion packs in all styles....etc...etc...

however.........after removing and re-installing Cubase5, and the same with Ezdrummer (about 3 times) i also tried updating Ezdrummer to v1.31
i'm still having issues, and i'm unable to use Ezdrummer.............frustrating....to say the least...lol
when i first got Ezdrummer installed it worked fine, and since having issues i've had it working........it's all there and when it loads it works....?????
i think it's more of a computer issue.........i'll maybe need to think about trying to upgrade, the laptop i have is pretty basic........1GB ram - would this affect performance, and cause crashes/failure to load issues ??? maybe i need more ram ? or a real drummer
