Hi everyone, complete newcomer to the forums (and the guitar) here. I'm on my summer holidays from university and am hoping to put the time to good use by getting started learning the guitar. I was hoping people might be able to offer me some advice as to which gear I should get - reading up on things is great, but talking to people who know their stuff is even better. I have some specific questions/requirements, but I didn't want to plunge in with those until I'd said hello. So hello! :)

Welcome Boudicca!

As to gear, are you thinking acoustic or electric? What kind of budget do you have?

Hi Boudicca, welcome to the forum, agree with Roland, think about your budget then you can narrow it down to guitars in that price range, to decide about what type of guitar you want think about the kind of music you listen to, some people start on acoustic and stay with it some get a yearning for an electric and some just want to play electric, it's an individual choice, the most important thing is to get one you're comfortable with, one you want to pick up and play
