Childhood
We carved our love on an oak tree in the woods
That tree lived longer than love ever could
You'd lay beside me on warm summer days
We'd talk a little then we'd run and play
The grass has grown around the place you laid
Silence replaced the laughter we once knew
I still come here where the memories have stayed
I look at our names and the little hearts we drew
And I sit with carvings faded
On an Oak tree gnarled and aged
And I wish we could go back to childhood
I wish we could be back in childhood
I hoped to see the Woman you'd become
The Mother with the Daughter and the Son
Life came along and took all hope away
No chance to see the children run and play
The grass has grown around the place you laid
Silence replaced the laughter we once knew
I still come here where the memories have stayed
I look at our names and the little hearts we drew
And I sit with carvings faded
On an Oak tree gnarled and aged
And I wish we could go back to childhood
I wish we could be back in childhood
By the oak tree where we carved our love in wood
All the Best
Chris
