Hi Everyone,
I've been fooling around with a chord progression and I think it sounds pretty cool. So I recorded myself playing it and also give instructions in case anyone wants to try it. It would be great if someone added some lyrics to it.
The sound gets a bit behind the video - not sure what happened. So keep that in mind when following along.
Hope you enjoy.

Very laid back chord progression there Doug. Maybe lyrics relative to a cuppa first thing Saturday morning would fit the mood.

Nice work Doug - and you invented a new chord: an A minor with stuff added - excellent. I'll have to pick up my guitar and have a go at this, if I can remember where I put it. Yes, I've been slack, again.... I have excuses, but I won't bore you with them.

Enjoyed your video Doug, love the progression, the Bossa Nova makes me feel romantic so I wrote something along those lines
Untitled (Song for the Woman I love, An old cliche)
I thought I'd say an old cliche
I love you every single day
I'll love you til' the end of time
A passion that will never die
I can buy you flowers wrapped up in a nice bouquet
Buy you diamonds, dresses, fancy perfumes, lingerie
But they are merely tokens with a message that can fade
I need to say an old cliche
All the Best
Chris

Hey Chris,
very nice lyrics - I like the feel. Of course we'll have to add a line about a cup of coffee in the morning for Johnny.
I tried to sing those lyrics but couldn't get the cadence. Usually you're the one converting my lyrics to a song - want to try this one with your lyrics?
And thanks, Mike. I should have said that this chord progression (although most likely used all over the place) came from Autumn Leaves - although there is not much semblance to that tune anymore.
It's in Em and the progression goes:
Am, D7, Gmaj7, Cmaj7, F#m7b5, B7, Em.

I'm working on some lyric ideas - I keep getting distracted but maybe I can come up with something later - not sure if I can do as well as Chris though. I always like a challenge. Maybe a combination, depending on my inspiration/lack of?

How about this Doug?
Doug has written, a lovely tune, and he needs to find some words
That’s not easy, but I’ll do my best, and I’ll try not, to sound absurd
Johnny wants me, to think about, his morning coffee brew
Dark and strong, just like himself, do you think that this will do?
Trouble is, this little tune, could need some better words
Perhaps I’d better, try again, when tomorrow’s bright and new
That is when, I’ll feel the way, our Johnny hears this tune
Sunday morning, sun is up, and coffee, freshly brewed
La la la, de de de, da, today Kirk plays his tunes
I wonder if, that cool dude Matt, will turn up 'n say 'How do?'
Maybe yes, and maybe no, you never know your luck
Now I think, I’ll go to bed, my words have come unstuck......
La de la, de de da da, etc fade to end.

Hi Doug, I don't mind having a go, I sang along with your humming at the end and wrote those lyrics around that so those verses are only part of the song, sorry for throwing a curve ball there, need to fill in the beginning (it's my new abstract way of songwriting
All the Best

I've rewritten the lyrics I wrote and added a couple of verses which will mean the tune will have to be extended, I think it could work but this is still a draft so don't mind the lyrics being changed if they don't fit, it's a bit tricky to sing, it was a bit tricky to write too haven't tried Bossa Nova before,
An old Cliche
Sitting sipping coffee
With you in a small cafe
There's something on my mind
There's something that I have to say
I thought of many ways to do it
And some ideas came
But none of them came near to saying
What I want to say
I need to find a better way
I think I'll say an old cliche
I think I'll say an old cliche
I love you every single day
I'll love you til' the end of time
A passion that will never die
I can buy you flowers wrapped up in a nice bouquet
Buy you diamonds, dresses, fancy perfumes, lingerie
But they are merely tokens with a message that can fade
I think I'll say an old cliche
An old cliche it has to be
It tells you what you mean to me
Three words I think I need to say
I love you it's an old cliche
Can say I like your brunette hair, your latin looks, your eyes that smoulder
To kiss your lips, to closely hold your hips that sway like bossa nova
But they are merely gestures that give pleasure then they fade
I think I'll say an old cliche
The last two verses follow the same progression as the ones above them and keep the song to a reasonable timescale.
Hope it works
Chris
