All the good songs have been written
Pa I want to be a writer
Want to write songs and go far
Travel the world making music
With a hope and a prayer and guitar
Son you won't make a living
Son it won't make you a star
I've met men who tried it before you
And none of those ever went far, cos
All the good songs have been written
All the sad ones have been sung
The songs about love about feeling good
Have used all the chords that they possibly could
It's only a career til you're out of ideas
And son you may be smitten
But all the good songs have been written
And all the bad ones have been sung
Pa I know your sincere
But there's still lots of music and rhymes
Songs that folk still want to hear sung
To dance to and have a good time
Son I used to be like you
I'd play guitar and write songs
But it never made me a living
So I stopped when you came along, cos
All the good songs had been written
All the sad ones had been sung
The songs about love about feeling good
Had used all the chords that they possibly could
It's only a career til you're out of ideas
And son you may be smitten
But all the good songs have been written
And all the bad ones have been sung
I didn't know that you played once
You never told me you could
Do you still have it around pa
Playing with you would be good
Son I kept it around me
Put it in the loft where it's stayed
I could bring it down for a short time
Maybe we could have a play
We sat on the porch and we sung
The old songs that pa used to sing
He told me to keep making music
Remembered the joy it could bring, cos.
All the good songs ain't been written
All the sad ones ain't been sung
The songs about love about feeling good
May have used all the chords that they possibly could
If you want to play music we think that you should
And we will always be smitten
Cos all the good songs ain't been written
And all the bad ones ain't been sung
All The Best
Chris

More nit-picking: this would depend on how the music went, but how about adding a yet to this line at the end?
Cos all the good songs ain't been written, yet....
And all the bad ones ain't been sung - I think sung is ok here.
My twisted sense of humor wants to add another 'yet' on to the end of the last line - not a serious suggestion.
No worries if you disagree, of course. Do you have a tune yet?

Haven't got a tune, I'm working on something else at the moment and I just wrote this down when I had the idea and thought I'd post it to see if any members were interested in doing it, I thought it would be better if someone who sings Country did it but I suppose it could also work as a folk song too
Thanks for having a look Carol.

Thanks for having a look Micky, I'll probably do it if no one else wants to but I'm hoping someone else might want to give it a go
Cheers

Thanks for having a look allthumbs, that would be cool, I was thinking along those lines that style would be perfect for this song.

i do get a country vibe from the lyrics, but i've got an idea for this a bit different from the obvious country vibe.......nothin fancy, no unknown yet to be played chords...........
i'll give it a wee bash, see what happens

That would be great Paul, free free to change the lyrics if you want to as this was written quite quickly, I do quite a lot of rewrites before I'm happy

the third take.......new guitar tracks, bass, and vocals.......a bit closer to the feel of the idea i had
the idea is - this is the song that comes from the jam the father and son have in the the lyrics
i thought something a wee bit old and newish sounding mixed, so the guitar with lots of distortion and mostly panned right is the son, playing heavier sounding riffs, and the guitar panned mostly left with less overdrive and playing a wee bit more old school style is the dad...........and the wee jam out at the end, is the son leading with a simple riff and inspiring the dad to play along.......that's how i see it anyway
i have made a few tweaks to the original lyrics......purely to fit the music idea........and i wasn't to sure about the bad songs get to number one addition, but i needed to fill another two lines at that point, and it came out, had to drop a verse to fit the structure too ......
