If you have some repetitive music in a song, you can play and record it once and
the looper plays it over and over for you, it can be turned off or on with a foot pedal.
You can play the chords to a song, loop it, and then play lead over it.
K T Tunstall is a master at it.
Every sound you hear in the song is her.

Oh god how I wish I knew how to do that. Does anyone know what kinda stuff she is using to put this together. Too old to learn but this is
outstanding. Of course it looks like a wiring jungle.

I am in no way very guitar tech saavy, and even I can manage my loop pedal , granted not within in a millions miles of what KT is doing in that clip. Very easy to use , click the pedal to start recording play your backing, get the timing right click again to stop
recording and it starts looping. They are a lot of fun.

Another amazing example of live looping is Kid Beyond. He's a beat boxer/singer who creates entire songs with loops using just his voice. He uses Ableton Live on a laptop and controls it with a MIDI foot controller, so this is a pretty advanced and powerful method for live looping.
He describes his setup here.
