What should I use as a good distortion pedal if I'm trying to get that 80's hair metal type tone? I was thinking about getting an MXR distortion or DOD FX56 pedal but are there any other suggestions?

Jekyll & Hyde. The Hyde side will get you some pretty high gain. And you get a nice tubescreamer on the Jekyll side.

I thought i would hi jack this thread as i am also looking into getting a distortion pedal.
I play a cheap behringer guitar and cant get a good sound playing Entersandman. If you know the intro there is some sliding from 2nd fret to 7th on the A string. When i do this i cant get my guitar to sound anything like it shoud for this song.
If i get a distortion pedal will that help or am i using the wrong type of guitar for this song anyway?
