Hello. I just posted my thread in the "Introduce yourself section" but then I found this forum and thought that someone out there has dealt with the problem that I have with my Duncan sh1 humbucker.
That problem is the loss of the gain and its smoothness. It used to have a great roll off section where I could have a flailing balls out dirty tone yet very controlled and clean withy great articulation and total clarity. I could then ease the pot down from wide open to about half way open and the tone was very akin to a punchy Joe Perry warm & greasy overdriven tone. Then I would ease it to about 1/4 open and I had pristine clean tone with the slightest hint of grit- sort of if I picked or strummed harder then I would get that extra kind of dirty tone.Well, doesnt that sound like an awesome pickup?? Yes it does and since I took the guitar to my trusted tech- it hasnt been the same. Before you think of how the tech messed it up, I have put almost 3 grand into my guitar for Mods and proper adjustments and this tech did it all for me and to my exact specs. He also spoke with me about there being some trouble with the pick up and said that he didntknow what was wrong, in other words this guydidnt have anything to do with the pickup trouble. Him beng a tech and a very good one and my savvy - 30 years of it- with certain gear and related issues, we havent been able to determine what the trouble is with the thing.
My guitar is a Mike Stern Yamaha Pacifica and I have used it for almost every type of gig, session, jam, demo, or other musical situation. If anyone out there has any ideas or advice as to what I could possibly to to solve this nightmare, I would be so greatful to hear from you. You can e mail me at : a777liq@yahoo.com
or you could post your comments here as I check this site daily now that I have joined.
Thanks very much and have a very safe and Happy New Year!!

Pups are a fairly simple bit of kit and tend to work or not work as a rule. This has to be a problem in the pots or associated wiring Dosn't it ? . Hope you resolve it soon don,t forget to post solution

Hi, thanks for your reply. I too thought it may very well be in the pots and or wiring of either. However, I have since been told that it is more than likely where the wiring is connected to the toggle switch.Seems as though the actual toggle switch is a big integeral part of a guitars tone. I never knew that they played such a vital role in the actual sound. But thats what I have been told.
I do not offer these comments as a solution to the problem but I do think that it is a possibility I will explore. It means pulling the guts out of the guitar - again - and then rewiring the damm thing but I will have to either do that or get another guitar to usefor my upcoming sessions.
Thanks again for your comments and as soon as I know verbatim what the solution is, I will most certainly post it
Cheers!!
