Microphone into a computer - What do I need?
I'm planning to buy a microphone so I can record my singing (sorry if I scared you) and my acoustic guitar.
I THINK I've heard people say you can plug the mic into the POD and it'll work fine, but I'm not sure.
I know what cables and so I need, but I'm not so sure about any other equipment I might need, nor how to set things up once I've plugged in.
Any advice?

Hey Kittie,
While you can plug a mic into the pod it's probably not going to give the best sound (unless you're going for a special vocal effect). You can also plug the mic directly into the mic input on your soundcard, but again this won't give the highest quality sound either (probably worse than using the POD).
For better quality a dedicated mic preamp is the best way to go. I know it's an extra cost, but what kind of budget did you have in mind for your mic and were you looking at any specific mics?
For more details I have a lesson about connecting various types equipement up to a soundcard located here.
Here the section that deals with connecting microphones.
Hope that helps.

Get yourself a small mixer to plug into your "line-in" on your computer. Then you can control a mic, a guitar, etc from the mixer. A nice inexpensive one is listed below.

Let me suggest Kraft Macaroni Dinners. Excellent choice. A little vino and you're all set.

Campbell's Beef Stew on a bed of Ramen noodles was quite the feast back in the college days- a hearty meal for under $2! For a special treat, throw in some frozen peas.

You could afford that!!. I used to steal packages of ketchup out of fast food places and make ketchup soup. I lost 40 lbs in 3 months. It's called the death by college diet.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
