fret noises with recording
hey it's me again...
I was trying to record a nice soft fingerpicking song on Kristal Audio. It sounded great when i played it on my guitar, but when i listened to the recording, there were many fret noises and stuff because i guess the recording picks up even the smallest noises on my acoustic guitar. I was wondering: Is there any way to reduce the fret noises? Is there a special plugin that I can download or something?
Thanks in advance!

There are plugins that can remove noises, scratches, pops, etc.... But I don't know of any good freebies. So you'd probably be better off fixing the noise at the source of the problem.
Is the fretbuzz because you're having problems holding down the strings or does your guitar need a setup?

If you're talking about fret noises when you move your hand up and down the neck, about the only thing I can tell you is to modify your technique. Personally, I like the fret noises to some extent. It adds character.

I agree with Kevin. I like hearing a little fret noise in the mix. It adds that extra bit of intimate ambience. At the same time, as both Tek and KB mention, to minimize fret noise, working on technique such as clean string release and arching the fingers slightly more will help eliminate it if you feel it a real problem.
But even the best in the business offer fret noises as a bonus!

Brandon,
Good advice and thanks for the link. I'll be looking at that site a bit.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
