I record, but I spend lots of money on it, so I don't really know what to recommend unless you want to buy expensive stuff, but we do have many home recordists here that work on a limited budget that might be able to help. You should post in the home recording section, which is a subsection of the Members Recordings section.

Hi Buddy

For the Rec-Software, I'd advice you to start with AUDACITY. Its free and is very easy to learn (If I could learn it easily, then anyone can ). Just google for it and you'll be able to download it. Let me provide you with the link too :
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

For the Hard-Ware : You can use a Mic if you play an Acoustic, or connect it into the PC, for an electric. You may also want to google for stuff like that and learn. I'm a beginner in Recording myself, but recently I'm learning some new stuff. The people here are great and its all because of them that I'm what I'm today.

Kindly let me know, If you need any help. I'll try my best to help you and we both can search for anything thats bothering. We'll solve it out together and together we'll learn more

I hope this helped.

Kindest Regards
Kush

I googled and found a few links for you Pal :

http://homerecording.about.com/od/ba...caudio_USB.htm
http://homerecording.com/digital.html
http://www.guitarnoise.com/article.php?id=346

I'll get you more as soon as I find some real good ones. I think the 3rd one in the above is really nice, not sure about the rest.

Kindest Regards
Kush

Check out Tekker's lessons here: http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/fo...splay.php?f=69

He has posted several lessons with very helpful information about freeware, miking, connecting to your computer, etc.

Well I'm a cheapy I guess, I use the Audacity software, saves in MP3 format, and real easy to use, but lol, I use my webcam microphone to actually record the open air playing.

But would like to know a good mic though.

Tekker's thread entitled "REC 02 - Microphones" has a lot of good info about mic'ing, and a bunch of mic recommendations a ways down the page.

For free software I recommend Kristal Audio Engine over Audacity. It's also very easy to use with a straight forward layout.

You can also download a free version of Sony Acid too but it's probably more complex than you need. Certainly not as easy to use as either Audacity or Kristal. Personally, I found Kristal less than instinctive to use and prefer Audacity but basically they are both pretty user friendly programs. Audacity is also ported to Linux and Mac, if you need those flavours. They're all free BTW, go ahead and experiment. I had all three on my computer at one stage and it didn't appear to cause any problems. There is a lot of info on both programs on this forum as well as the stuff Tekker has done, just do some searches.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
