I want cheap home recording

I'm looking to find a way of recording my playing on a very basic format for mostly help in self improvement. Im on a very small budget so can anyone help?
Would a line 6 pod be a good investment for me?
I see that the pod 2 is about half price because of the newer version is out.
Is this a good bit of gear or Im I better off going down the cubase type road?
Thanks if you can help.

I take it, this is for recording electric guitar only? Or acoustic and vocals as well?

From Guitar center - see D-Dawn's post on mic recommendations....

M-Audio MXL 990/991 Recording Mic Duo and M-Audio AudioBuddy Package (#703626) $99.99

Live Wire XLR Microphone Cable
(20 Foot) (#100341862) $14.99 X 2

Hosa Stereo Y-Cable Mini Male - 2 1/4" Mono Males
(10 Foot) (#333053) $8.99

Musicians Gear Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom
(Black) (#451052) $19.99 X 2

Total - $143.96

you get two microphones, two mic booms, a pre-amp and all the cables needed to connect to the sound card of your PC.
Download Audacity - a free DAW - digital Audio Workstation software package that a lot of people here use.

It's an incredible deal. But they only ship in the US - I didn't check to see where you're from.

------
oh - Berkshire - doesn't sound like the US - too bad. Maybe you've got a friend who will buy it for you and ship it to you...

I use a digitech gnx 3000 for my recording. For the money I would recommend a line 6 tone port $129.00 And audacity.

Hmmm - that doesn't add up. I took that figure from the checkout page but it should be closer to $180.

Still, pretty good deal.

I use Line 6 Toneport UX2.

They have a bunch of products that I recommend. To record I recommend Reaper (it's a DAW). There are a bunch of plugins and VST out there for free.

Reggetton sucks!!!!!!!!!!!

+1 on the Toneport. I had a GuitarPort and have a PodXT. Line 6 makes some pretty good stuff and the Gearbox software is very nice.

I know you want it cheap, but if you can possibly get $300 together, buy the Line6 KB37; all the POD sounds, ASIO, 2 mic and 2 line inputs, dedicated guitar input and a 37 note midi keyboard. Use this with Reaper and any number of free VSTs and VSTis and you can record as simply as you like, or create complex mixes. It takes a while to get used to, but I would be happy to help with any queries.
Ian

I wished I would have saved up for KB37 instead of the UX2, I would have loved to have keyboard and all it's sounds

+1 on the Toneport, I have a UX-1 running through Reaper. $40.00 for Reaper and $99.00 for the Toneport from GC.

We should make a sticky about this subject. We all go through this from time to time. Many people would be able to benefit from the feedback as well.
