connecting guitar to amp...

Ok, so I don't exactly remember where I heard this. But it was something about connecting your guitar to you amp before turning it on and always disconnecting it when not playing. Or something would break.

So I just wanted to know what will beak and what I am supposed to do, connect the guitar before or after turning on the amp?

Definitely plug the guitar in before turning on the amp and turn off the amp before unplugging. You can do the same by turning the amp volume all the way down before plugging in. I don't know if you can harm the circuitry or just the speaker, but it sure doesn't sound too good.

I'm not sure why you would need to disconnect when not playing. The only thing I can think of is that the cord may get caught by someone's foot and pull the guitar over.

You can connect the guitar to the amp while it's on... Just make sure the volume on the
amp is all the way down... The jack makes a loud pop when it makes contact with the
input on the amp... If the volume is really high it can damage the speaker or your ears
or both...!!!

I once blew out a PA system in a club by not turning down the amp before plugging in...!!!

Leaving your guitar plugged in will not harm anything, just make sure you turn the amp
off...!!!

Cheers
Ben

If your guitar uses a 9 volt battery for active pickups or electroncis, leaving it plugged in will drain the battery, but that's about it.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
