Temperature Change

Hi All

My family has planned a small Holiday, for 3 days to a Hill-Station, and the temperature difference between there and the place where I live is considerable. Its much cooler there. I didnt want to go, as I would'nt be able to take my Guitar (I'm worried about the Temp-Difference), but I thought I'd just sacrifice for my family's happiness.

Can I take the Guitar with me ??? I Just dont want to loose my practice-time
Will it harm the Guitar ??? Should I just leave it here

Please help out, Family !!!!

Lots of Regards and Care
Kush

You will be fine. You might have to tune up a bit. remember the other posts here about this subject. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and high humidity are the problem. 3 days shouldn't be a problem. You don't want your guitar in a trunk for great periods of time in blistering heat though.

Yes, Kush, as allthumbs says, there's no problem. A well made guitar will easily stand up to temperature changes, especially if they're gradual.

I use the guitar to connect with people. I'd never pass up the opportunity to be with people, even family , to be with my guitar.

You can't look at the guitar as this fragile, dainty thing that can only be handled with
the out most of care, for fear that it might fall apart the minute it is exposed to a harsh
environment... Despite their appearance guitars are a rugged bunch, and can withstand
substantial abuse, and still not be the worse for ware... Take a look at Willy Nelson's
Flamenco acoustic, the thing has a huge hole smashed into the sound board, and he still
plays it at every concert, and it sounds great... Or SRV's Strat, you would think he used it
to shovel snow, but he still preferred it to all others, even gave it a name, (some trivia there,
let's see who knows)...
I've seen guitars played, and have played them in some adverse conditions Ie: In the
rain, at the beach, at the mountains while camping...
They have followed settlers, explorers, crusaders, frontiersmen, all over the world...!!!

I even rescued an Epiphone that had been sitting without a case, in a mouldy basement for years,
I still have it and it sounds awesome...

Of course care should be taken to not damage your guitar, the same care you would give
anything you want to last and be useful, but like someone mentioned in another thread,
the more you play it, the more you use it, the better it will sound...!!!

So, don't be afraid to take it with you Kush. It will make you happy, and those around you as well...!!!

Cheers...!!!
Ben

Acoustic guitars are another story. Kush, just transport your guitar in a case. Maybe slightly loosen the strings before you go but otherwise your guitar should be a ok.

Oh I just remembered something about this topic. I have had to put my guitar into the 'cargo' part of plane while travelling. Now those areas of the plane are not as 'climate controlled' as the cabin and I am sure that at 30,000 ft the cargo portion gets cold. I have never had a problem with a guitar (cases are a different story) under those conditions.

Also I use to live in Minnesota, where they have cold winters (zero degrees F for highs sometimes). I would leave my guitar in the trunk of the car while at the gym (5:30am - 8 am) and again never had a problem.
