Guitar Polishing Cloth (Micro-fiber)
Hi all
Just wanted to know whether a Guitar should be polished or wiped everday (after-playing) using a special Guitar-Polishing Cloth only, ie Micro-fiber cloth or any other would be fine.
Planning to purchase a few accessories online, and hence I asked . Should I really buy a polishing kit too ????
Please suggest as I have no idea on this.

A bit of No-Wax furniture polish, and an old pair of underwear goes a long way for me, Kush...!!! ;o)

Wash the underwear first.
If you want to buy a kit on line you can't go wrong with it. Yeah, you can clean your guitar after each use but I've known people that stopped playing as much because they didn't want to clean their guitar all the time. The guitar, ultimately, was meant to be played, not cleaned. Play it often, clean it from time to time.

I agree your guitar is meant to be played not cleaned. I would also say taking the 30 seconds to wipe your guitar, especially the strings & fretboard with a clean & dry rag/towel is going to help save you on strings in the long run.

I can't remember the last time I cleaned my guitar(s)! I'm not awfully kind to mine, I'm afraid. I bang them around quite a bit...

Had quite a couple of guitars over the years and I cant say that I ever really cleaned them that much... maybe once in 6 months... I wipe the strings and fret board on a regular basis though... I must say that if you have a bit of personal hygiene that the guitar doesnt "gunk" up that easily...
I've played or seen guitars that have either never been cleaned or they serve as platters for a fish and chips party regularly.
I must say that I would not hesitate to clean my guitar regularly if I had the SG and Strat i am longing after... but then that is cause it cost so much to get in the first place that i wouldnt like to replace them...

Cleaning your guitar is probably a bit like washing your car ... don't do it. The termites will stop holding hands and it will all fall apart.
Microfibre clothes are great for cleaning strings after playing however. I reckon I'm getting more mileage from my strings since I've been doing that.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
