  Regarding DI Box

Hi all

I've decided to buy a Shure Mic and in a previous post UGB had suggested me that I use a DI Box, to connect it to my PC. I just wanted to know whether I can use my "PRE-AMP (which i bought locally, which has 5-mic inputs and 1 output - Is it a Mixer?) to connect the Mic to the PC?

I'm worried whether this can be done without harming the Mic, because it costs so much, and I really want to improve my recording. I have been told that this Pre-amp/Mixer contains a DI in its Circuitary, but I'm not sure

Thanks again and Lots Of Regards

Kush

That should work well, Kush. I use a Rode mic into a Behringer mixer. In fact, my mic needs 'phantom power' to run, which it gets from the mixer.

You'll now be able to really control the level of the guitar going into the PC ... get it just right.

I can't wait to hear your future recordings!

Thanks for all the times when you've been encouraging me, I really feel that I'm improving a lot because of you and all my friends here on the forum. I can never forget your comment, when you said that I was Born for finger-style playing !!!! I feel I've already achieved so much, after hearing that. And whenever I take my Guitar, I can remember this.

That pre-amp should be fine. Go out of it and into your aux in on your sound card.

Sorry if I'm asking too basic, Sir, but by aux, do you mean trhe line-in on the sound-card?

Kind Regards

Kush

Yes. Most sound card have 2 input jacks, one labeled 'aux in' and the other 'mic' or 'microphone'. You want to use the aux in as it's actually a stereo jack. So lets say one day you get a guitar with an onboard pickup system you could run your pickup to one input on your preamp and your mic to another input on your preamp and if you have a stereo output you can blend those into the input jack so that one is the left channel and the other is the right channel.
