  Bass Action Setup for Tapping

I have been playing bass for a while, and I have recently gotten into Victor Wooten's stuff after having played Jaco's material. I want to get into 2 hand tapping like Wooten does, but I have a few problems with my bass.

I have heard that he gets his action super low without buzzing, and he plays with a much lighter touch. What I was wondering was, how do I set up a super low action? I have already made my relief minimal and lowered the saddles but it is buzzy no matter how light i play. I wonder if anyone has any tips for me on how to set this bass up for tapping, and I think i need to procure low tension strings right?

Also, for your note, I am an experienced wood worker and I have a good background in building guitars in my shop, however I always have difficulty with set up especially being that I did not make this bass and it has been with me for a while [IE I dont want to risk damaging it].

I'm not a bass player or a tapper finch but I've found this link with some tips, you do need lighter strings and the common problem seems to be clearing the first fret may also have a problem if the frets aren't even and some are more worn than others but I'm no expert, anyway here's the link hope it helps a little.
