quick question...

Hi Everybody! I am new here, have been playing a few months now and I found I really like the sound of a 12 string. So my boyfriend went out and got me one, but when we were looking at it at home I found the store had put the strings on the wrong way(fat string on the top) and everything I find says the string an octave higher should be on the top. You can also see the grooves on the nut have bigger cut outs on the bottom for the larger string. Well I can't get the bridge pins out to change the strings and I was wondering if there could be any damage done from them doing this? I don't think there should be, but I am a super new to the guitar and I want to make sure this wouldn't damage it.

I would advise you to call the music shop, ask if the strings are correctly 'strung', and dont try to force the pins out. The 'fat' string may have to be on the top?

I wouldn't know, I'm not a 12 string guitarist...

Hope this helps,

Jean

PS- UGB would know more about this...

You are correct;the strings are on wrong. I would expect the music store to spot you a new set of strings and string it up properly at no charge.
