Cracked solid spruce top

Hi,
And thanks for reading this! Last weekend I traded of a couple of acoustics for a Washburn D12S-12, a 12 string acoustic. It handled very nice! And it didn't sound bad at all either. Even though the strings looked, and sounded like they came with the guitar when it was new. I brought it home and played on it for an hour or so. I set it down and when I sat there looking at it, I noticed a crack running from the bridge to an inch or so away from the bottom edge. I felt it there while I was playing, but couldn't see it at all. So I thought it was something spilled on it that needs to be cleaned off.
Is there anything that should be done to it now? Or wouldn't a crack like that weaken the guitar at all?
Thanks again.

That would depend on whether it is a finish crack or the actual wood it's self is cracked. Either way, you would repair it just like any other piece of wooden furniture. A surface crack can be left but, if it bothers you while playing that refinish. Any library book on refinishing furniture will do or you can find instructions and refinishing materials for guitars on the net.

How could I determine if it's a wood, or finish crack? I do think that if something slides against it just right, the finish could chip off of there.
I could build solid wood projects when I was younger. But my finishing jobs were very bad, at best!

Try pressing "very very" lightly along one side of the split then the other to see if it moves as one or not...if they don't seem to seperate then it's probably just a finish crack...if your not comfortable repairing it, you could always have a local luthier or two give you a quote.

It seems to be solid. Didn't see any flex in it at all. I'll google it and see what I can come up with. Maybe do a patch job, or just leave it be.
