New strings (variax)

Hello all,

I'm going to get a new set of strings, and I was hoping someone could recommend a good set of strings for a newbie. I have a Variax 300. I'll have to read the manual, and search the internet, on how to change strings.

I've seen the jazz strings are thicker. .11 on. I have seen there are .9 or .10 onwards too.

Thanks

My 700 came with 10's and I now use 11's (Intonation and truss rod needed slight adjustment) so 10's would be your imediate choice.

The thicker the string the fatter the tone is the basic rule of thumb, but the thicker the string the harder it is for bends etc. As noobie I would stick to light or even extra light gauges (10's or 9's)

I use elixer (Spelling????) anti rust as my sweat is like acid but also use D'addrio light gauge (10's again).

Each of us will have our own preferences so its a matter of what is available to you and for you to try a few brands until you find what you like!

Thanks all.

The .10 information you all mentioned was very important, or else I would have probably ended with another size... I did get D'addario .10, and now some day I'll change them... as it is going to take time (being the first time) I'll do it when I have a long uneventful evening free.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
