Neck reset?

Took this old acoustic martin of mine in for a check-up while I was visiting a new shop....was told the neck needs to be reset. Since I didn't know these guys I said thanks and that was that. This seems to play very nice to my unexperience, so I'm wondering what does a neckset consist of and how does it improve playabilty, and possible ballpark figure on cost. I do know a good luthier and will eventually take it to him for another review but I would like to be a little more informed before I go.

Take a look here.Set-in neck - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I am assuming that the neck is not seated as well as it could be and is effecting the tone of the notes as well as the quality of the sustain. It would be worth your friend taking a look. It can make a significant difference to the sound.

Hi Kenny did a bit of research and I think you'ld be looking at $200 to $300 for a neck reset, here's a link on buying used guitars, other Members might find it useful as well.

And here's some info. on resets

Hope this helps

Thanks guys, just what I needed, now I won't feel as "much" as a noob when I go in.

Yeah JJ, thats part of it...It plays ok to my abilities, so do I spend the $$$, probably will as its worth a few bucks to begin with..I will get that second opinion though.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
