Missing Strap Holder

Hi, I have a strap holder on the bottom of my guitar but I do not have one up by the neck...should I try to put one on myself? Is this something I could really screw up and potentially damage the guitar?
Or should I just pay a professional to do it?

Thank you,
Brian

It's not hard ti install a strap button, but it's cheap to have done. The main issue is getting it in the right place. Some guitars have bolts hidden in the neck heel and you need to avoid them when drilling for the screw. You can also go the traditional way and tie the strap around the neck behind the nut.

i think that rockerbobs advice is the proper way to go,you can buy a small strap that goes round where the neck is at is at the nut, then your strap attaches to it for a few dollars is all it costs.

Many straps come with a lace attached to one end that you can tie around the headstock - looks pretty much like a thin black shoelace.

I hate tying it around the neck. I have an acoustic right now that needs a button on the front.

My Taylor came with a strap button installed on the neck heel, while my Jasmine/Tak doesn't have one. I don't particularly like tying it around the headstock either - the strap position is more comfortable and less obstructive on the Taylor.

A luthier advised me that since guitars vary in design, the strap button placement is not the same for each. His advice was to let a professional put it where it's strongest. He charged me $5 and I didn't complain. However he did say that necks were designed to resist the pull of the strings, not the sideways pull of a strap tied to the headstock. His opinion.

I had one installed where I study on both my dreads at the heel with no problem.
