Now What

When I got home from my lesson today, something was rattling around inside my Seagull acoustic. It looks like it covers the the place where the neck bolts into the body of the guitar; that's my guess at least. Am I correct where it goes, what does it DO, is it important to have it reinstalled, and is it urgent?

By the looks of it, it is just a label. It is a none functional item and will have no effect on your guitar. We have some seagull owners who may be able to give you more detail.

Well, I'd be inclined to think it was completely cosmetic if it weren't for the fact that the black stuff is a quarter inch of foam rubber.

Basically, it looks like a lot of trouble to hide a logo inside the guitar for the parent company which seems to go out of its way to maintain separate brands.

Looks like it's like a badge of Authenticity that covers the bolts, the rubber would be a protective measure, probably typical Seagull, even the cosmetic stuff is classy. If you're worried or for peace of mind you can contact them via this link.

The black foam is most likely double sided adhesive tape , we use alot of it in the automotive industry to adhere body side moldings and emblems to the vehicles . As the Auto Manufactures use it too .
That would be my guess , as it looks like a emblem plate to me , to cover the screw area .

Thanks for the replies. I sent them an email, though their site basically says, "don't expect us to respond." I'm sure you guys are correct and it's just an over engineered thing. I'll just have it put back in place next time I have the guitar strung and maintained. Which is a couple weeks, I think. Every 3 months, right?

Edit: Wait a minute, from what I've seen around here most people just buy a new guitar when their strings get old.

From Godin's support (not bad turnaround time!):

Hi,

That's a neck bolt cover. It only has an aesthetic purpose, it doesn't really
need to be reinstalled.
