fret buzz les paul

i need to raise my strings at the bridge , it is a les paul and the music store told me to raise the little peice between the pic up and were the strings hook into the body . im not sure what the name of the peice my strat doesnt have one , anyway there is a threaded peice with like a set screw ontop of it and a treaded collar not sure exactly how to raise the strings

You can do it without the tool if you slack off the strings. Small turns and then re-tune to check the height.

Dont know much about Gibson. But whenever I raise my fender strings, it affects intonation which needs a little tweaking after. Just something to keep in mind.

Why did they tell you to do this? If you have fret buzz, where? It sounds like they were telling you to raise the stop bar. Not sure how that would help with string buzz.

Seems to me, more and more stores don't have anybody really qualified to work on guitars. They guess at what a problem might be and then give mediocre if not bad info.
