Building a guitar for my first time! (Not just any guitar)

I'm really in love with Michael Angelo Batio's custom double Deans and I would love to play a double guitar. I'm both left and right handed just like Michael angelo Batio himself. I don't want to spend a fortune on an MAB double axe so I"m going to build one. Not starting from scratch. Will build as two seperate guitars and make them connectable. I will make the bodies myself, but everything else will be bought.

Anyone have any tips for me?

how do you plan on connecting them? what will you be making the bodies out of? sounds like a neat idea. at least from a design aspect.

I'm kinda thinking about what wood to use for the body. The neck I'm going to buy from a local "Frankentar" builder. I'm kinda stuck on how to connect the two bodies. Any idea? And also keep in mind the two guitars each need to be connected to it's seperate amp (they don't share electronics).

speaking as a carpenter and all over woodworker - I would use maple or some other exotic wood that is stable (Is not affected by humidity )maple is probably a traditional material . As for how to connect - I assume you will want to separate them for storage at least if not maybe to play them separately at one point or another. Some kind of mechanical joinery such as a tapered dovetail joint . One would slide over the other yet the joint would look very tight as if it were one piece. With a locking pin to come in from the back .Depends on how your woodworking skills compare to your tools .

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
