String trees on a Mexican strat?
Does anyone know if there should be a sleeve between the string tree and the headstock on a Mexican strat?
I've just picked up a used model and the string tree sits on the headstock with no sleeve.
Regards....Barry

My MIM Strat just has a bracket screwed to the headstock. It's like two n's with a crosspiece linking the two inner legs. Nothing separates the bracket from the wood. It's like this - n_n - but with the cross bit touching the legs of the n's.

Made in Mexico, Barry. Actually all standard Strats and Tele's are, and have been for a while.

737 gave you the answer Barry and here's a tricky test. What does MIJ mean? Huh?

Even trickier yet - what's the difference between MIJ and CIJ?

LOL, 737blues and Tenthumbs!
MIJ stands for "Made in Japan", and CIJ for "Crafted in Japan" - it's some distinction that Fender makes, but I haven't quite figured out exactly what the difference is. I've heard it related to Pre-CBS and CBS-era guitars, but not exactly sure.

It all came out of the same factory anyway. I have a 60's Fernandes Strat which is stamped Made in Japan. I think they just put a Fender decal and slightly better hardware on them in those pre CBS days, if they were destined for the US market.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
