Strap Problems

I just bought my first set up a little over a year ago. All is well except for one thing...my strap keeps falling off. At first it was ok, and it kept my guitar from falling. But about a month after I started playing, it began to fall off and drop my guitar. I was just wondering if a strap lock was something I should buy, or not. Or maybe if there was any way to fix this problem. I'm tired of having my guitar fall on my feet!

Hi Alex
Yeah, maybe a straplock might be the better option. Or look at getting another strap, but then you may have a similar problem after a month or so.

What kind of strap are you using?

Well there you go ... Straplocks would be good.

(Could solve your problem too with what to import from USA Coldethyl, or have you seen them here? I've only ever seen the Planet Waves one's and they're pretty expensive) )

The universe tried to counter-balance all the advantages we hold over every other nation by making our buying power not as good as others - a small price to play for living here though!

Yes definitely straplocks. £8.99 from most good GS. Quick and easy fix. Just unscrew the original strap holders and replace with the straplocks. It's That Simple.

I have Straplocks on both of my electrics. I wouldn't risk my guitars to stock strap buttons.

Amen to that!

I found that buying a good quality strap helps. Which here you can buy cheaper than strap locks. I had a cheap strap that came with a "student pack" and it was a rotten thing, ive got a fender strap now, and its never slipped off yet.

How about unscrewing the current buttons, cutting new holes in the strap that only just fit over the button from the 'wrong way' and screwing the buttons back again. If you don't want to cut more holes in your strap, simply find some washers that are big enough to fit over the buttons the 'wrong way' but are small enough to not pop off the button the other side. Then put your strap on and screw the buttons back on.

These methods mean that you can't take the strap off easily - but I am a "one strap one guitar" man. By that I don't mean I have only one guitar (I have lots), but I have a single strap dedicated to each of my guitars.

Alternatives include putting the strap on the buttons while they are still on the guitar and then securing them with rubber washers. I don't know if they sell it where you are, but in the UK we can buy Grolsch lager in bottles that have a handy red rubber washer just the right size (well, you have to stretch it a bit to get it on - but that makes it more secure). Of course, in the UK, this option costs almost as much as buying strap locks, but it is more fun to drink lager than to play with screwdrivers.

If you do go for straplocks, your next post will be "the strap lock screw is a different size".
