Guitar gear unique to the USA
My daughter intends visiting the USA later this year for a holiday and wants to buy me something for my guitar that you can't get here in Australia.
She asked me what I want (no guitars or amps though) and for the life of me, I can't think of anything.
So, I thought maybe someone who actually lives in the US may have some idea.
Or maybe someone who lives in Australia but has visited the US may know.
She'll be going to basing herself in LA, but she'll be visiting other states like Memphis, Colorado, Washington, and also New York, so what guitar shop would be the ideal place she could go?

Sorry to waste anyone's time with this question. I just realised how silly it really is to expect someone to know what kind of gear could be bought in the US that couldn't be bought here in Australia. Especially with the availability of ebay now.
I thought of maybe a Morley Bad Horsie Wah pedal! I'm fairly certain they're not able here in Australia. I've checked on ebay but couldn't find any. So maybe I'll settle for that.

You can't get that cool Laser light tuner that uses string vibration rather than sound outside of the U.S. either. Wish I could find the link.

How odd. On their site they say will not ship outside of U.S. Must sell to 3rd parties that do. Never mind

Perhaps they mean free shipping or to individuals, not resellers. Who knows?

AT - were you by chance thinking of the Peterson StroboStomp?

I can't imagine very many things she will find in the USA that you can't get down under. Maybe the wah pedal you mentioned. Does you daughter play guitar? If she did then if she found a unique guitar that might be too expensive for you to get she could check it out and bring it home for you .

Hi Neil,
Maybe I'm wrong here, but it was my understanding that there is quite a price markup in OZ versus the U.S. If that is the case, you could have her find something you really want but didn't want to pay OZ prices for.
Maybe look at Musiciansfriend.com for some ideas and have her go to a local Guitar Center or Sam Ash Music and get what you want for less cash?
And I don't know what the current exchange rate is, so that would need to be considered, too.
Just a thought.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
