Can anyone tell me the difference between Tortex and Nylon made picks?

i have friends who have hand carved tortios shell picks and make a big deal over them,but how much of that is novelty compared to function,I can't say. I know that with nylon, over time,my medium and light picks would start to deform where as tortex seems to resist that. Nelsonite can probably answer this one better than I. I haven't used a pick in a year or so.

I find Tortex to be stiffer and less prone to sliding around in my sweaty fingers. The tone generated by Tortex is also less harsh to my ears. BTW I use Jim Dunlop Tortex green & blue ( .88mm & 1.0mm). Planet waves also makes a similar pick but their picks are a bit thinner.
