Teach me, " Please"

Magpie doesn't get how to post a question eek! ( third person )

I'm new to forums so help me out here. I just asked a question in the wrong place, somewhere where I went in response to an e mail I got from Dawn, so... I think I need some help here. Dawn, can you find my question? Can somebody?
It was something like, should I learn on an electric Fender ( just because I access to one,) or should I get an acoustic w/steel strings because it fits what I would like to someday play. How's that?
Oh --- and I had the question about the size I should look into buying, should I learn that I should buy one instead of using the Fender. " Whew"

Hrmm...I haven't gotten any PM's lately. You sure it was from me?? I'll take a peek in my inbox even so

This is your question from an earlier post:
Quote:
I have a quickie for you to answer; I have ( my daughter's ) an electric Fender and thought I would start out on it. From what I've read, the best guitar for me is an acoustic steel string, however, do you think it's a wise thing to start on the Fender or should I just get myself something I'll enjoy playing on instead? I don't hate the Fender, it just seems like I would love the feel of the sound reverberating next to my tummy, the electric doesn't have that. ( I didn't need to tell you that ) Sheeesh.
One other question, I'm not a small woman ( 5'9") so should I get a full size guitar or just one I can cuddle with. Makes me sound like a fatty doesn't it?
Thanking you in advance Magpie : D

Hi Magpie.

There's a lot to the site and it can be difficult sometimes to work out where to post a question. The best thing to do is go to the main forum page - http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/forum

Look at the names of the various sub-forums and decide which is the most appropriate for your question. For example I think the best forum for your question about learning on an acoustic or electric would have been "Playing the guitar". Once you've decided just click on that forum and start a new thread in it to ask a question.

If you do start a thread in the wrong forum don't worry about it. One of the moderators will probably move it for you. The question you asked earlier was in a thread where someone was introducing themselves to the forum and there's a good chance it wouldn't have been seen there so I moved it to a new thread called Learning on electric or acoustic? in the "Playing The Guitar" forum.

Hope this helps. Don't hesitate to ask any questions if needed. Oh and thanks to Dawn for helping out too.

If you want to learn to play the steel string acoustic, then that's what you should buy. While the electric is easier to fret, it's probably not going to take you in the direction you want to go. Definitely get a full size guitar. You'll enjoy the volume and fullness of the sound much more.

Hi Magpie, I was just reading your other thread. Here it is Learning on electric or acousic?

It was in the "Playing the Guitar" forum so it wasn't out of place in there.

Cheers

For ease of playing, I'd have to say an electric. Just don't stray too far from what you want to learn. Once you get the hang of it, then go out and get your acoustic.

If you're looking to play a steel-string acoustic guitar, that's what you should get. Because it's not as easy to fret and doesn't hide bad technique, an acoustic guitar is always better to learn on.

If you're worried about money and don't want to pay for a second guitar when you already have one, you can always find a cheap, fair-quality guitar.
