What's the best picks (heavy, medium, or light) for an acoustic guitar?

Hi JMM13

I suspect you`ll get as many answers to that one as there are acoustic players - your best bet is to get yourself down the music shop and buy a selection try them until you find one that suits your style and the sound you`re after.

Generally though a thin pick will give less volume and a brighter sound than a heavy one, and many find it easier to strum with a thin one. Some find that a heavier pick gives a better sense of control as well as a more precisely defined sound.

If you are completely new to the guitar you maybe better off with a fairly flexible one. Possibly one with some sort of postive grip on it will help too

Your call mate

Will

I think heavier picks also generate more movement in the top of the guitar, therefore giving a bigger tone. I use heavier picks when playing or recording solo acoustic guitar pieces, and lighter picks if I am laying down rhythm tracks on a recording and the guitar will be mixed in the background.

Picks are cheap. My advice is to buy a few of each and experiment. Only then you will have your answer, grasshopper.

I don't waste my time with lights or mediums!
It's heavy's all round for me!
