Guitar will Travel
I would like to get some of your opinions please, what do you like for a 3/4 size acoustic? The Taylors and Martins are a little pricey but I may go for it on a trade-in, I'll see. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about the Yamaha JR1, Washburn OG1 I think, Dean also makes a 3/4 size, and there may be a couple of others. I'd like to keep in the office and take it on the road (not gigging mind you!). thanks for your input.

Can't speak for the Yamaha or the Washburn, but the Dean left a LOT to be desired.
Did not play well and the tone was really dull.
From personal experience playing on the 3/4 and baby Taylors, well, the ones I've tried in the stores vary from one to another in playability and tonal quality.
Last year I did see & try a Guild that was the same size as a Baby Taylor. It played great, had much better tone (even for a small thing!) and was, as I recall (which can be contested!!) around $195 US.

Played a Blue Ridge at a local music store.....awsome sound. I keep hoping I'll find someone who has heard the Fullerton Blackwood Parlor Guitar....looks like an old timey blues guitar from the 30's

I read one review for it. He said it had a pretty good bass response for it's size and he was happy with it for a travel guitar. He didn't say how it stacked up against 3/4 guitars. Playable out of the box but, getting a good setup helped. 150-175 new on Ebay.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
Buy it now for only $10 |
