My New Sick Effects Pedal

This thing is nasty (Boss ME-50), this is my first good pedal and i cant believe how good it is. My old pedal was a crappy digitech RP300, which is garbage compared to this one. It has over 20 types of overdrive/distortion, nice reverb, about ten different modeling settings, delay, mod effects and expressoin pedal (wah, volume, ringmod, resonance and one other one), but what makes this pedal good is the quality not quantity. I made a quick recording which after the fact realized i should have tweaked the sounds a little more, and a recording from before, HUGE difference!

(to a moderator, i wasnt sure if i should put this in here or in gear, so just move it if its in the wrong place)

Thats a nice little tune there, the pedal sounds nice. I have gone full circle on this, I started with a multieffects unit but I wanted to play and not mess arount trying to the sound I wanted. I now use a couple of Boss pedals Distortion, Overdrive and a Blues driver and that mixed with my amp get what I want.

Glad you are happy, hope to hear more after you have a chance to play more

That is a huge difference in tone Axe. Congrats. If I had a pedal like that, I would end up accidentally turning the channels on my tv with it and opening all the electric garage doors in the neighbourhood. I am an on- off button kind of guy.

That pedal certainly adds dimensions to your tone, sounds good. Must admit though I'm with Marty on the ON/OFF idea, stomp boards stump me too.

AX7221, I got rid of my Digitech RP300 just two weeks ago. I was unhappy with the unit as well. Oddly enough one of the best distortion/OD effects I have is the high gain channel on a 20+ year old Gorilla GG-25 Proactice amp.

I just picked up the MagicStomp and it's like an FX laboratory. I haven't scractched the surface with it yet. For recording I really like the Line 6 Guitar Port. It's pretty straight forward and the amp/cab models are pretty darn good.

The ergonomics of your Boss unit look pretty good. I could have a lot of fun with that thing.

I got one at home too, it totally Rocks... Great as a recording box and sounds fantastic through my Traynor valve amp. I would rate it as one of the best purchases I ever made

Resurrecting an old thread here. I just bought one of these (Boss ME-50), and am really having fun with it! It reduced the clutter of having 4-5 pedals afoot, and is more versatile to boot. I had previously been using a Digitech RP-80 as a multi-FX, but editing the patches and trying to switch between them got tedious. The ME-50 can be used in "manual" mode as a multi-stompbox, or in "memory mode" where you can create/edit/use patches, set in 10 banks of 3 each.

So far I've just been using it in manual mode - the number of different sounds you can pull out of this thing is unbelievable. I really like the fact that it's all configured with knobs/dials rather than going from screen to screen stepping obscure parameters up and down. Even though I'm pretty 'literate' with electronic gadgets, I find that I spend more time playing and less time tweaking when I can just reach down and twist a knob or two to adjust something rather than having to do "deep editing" via menus/buttons, computer USB interface, etc. This device is pretty much as simple as having a pedalboard of individual FX pedals at your feet. Probably not as versatile as something like the Pod XT Live or GT-8, but it fits my needs well at this point.
