Funny the first ding in my guitar happened when I let a player, who I respect and I know he plays hard, play my guitar. I did a bit of a ding on the front face of my Takamine while playing one of his hard playing numbers. I noticed a few days later and thought "At least it came from being played by someone who is good." Since then I have put a few dings in it myself.

We get upset at dings on instruments we purchase because they cost so darn much, but I learned that it is not such a bad thing after all...like the man said, look at Willy Nelsons guitar...

I don't get upset at dings. I think scars, bump marks and scratches add attitude to the guitar. I hate guitars that look completely new, bright and shiny!

First ding on my new guitar was... well, probably one of a lot of bumps into the desk that is beside my computer, where I play. =P

When I first started reading your post I thought it was going to end with the beer pouring over the guitar! Luckily it wasn't that bad!

In watching the Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival DVD, I noticed that the majority of the guitarists were playing axes that were, to say the least, "well worn". Personally I think it adds character to the guitar and shows that plenty of hours of playing have gone into it.....at least when it's "wear" and not "neglect"!
