a tone tip

I believe averyone likes the distorted sound? at least it is widely used in rock or blues-rock.

Don't know if lost of people aware of the thing i want to share. In russia some people do know about it but I haven't heard of it being applied by someone.

It is about the "wiring"...

a distorted sound remeins "clean" when only one string is ringing. But if you try to play chords with distortion turned on (especialy if it is overdrive) you will get a mess instead of sound.

the solution is to have every string (*) distorted (**) and than mixed togather. in this case you'll be able to play chords with each string sounding as clear as if you wouldn't distort the sound...theoreticaly) in practice the situation just a bit worse - a mess in the sound appeares while mixing the signal from each string togather. But it could be reduced by using better wiring...

a fly in the ointment
(*) - This "thing" could be applied only if you have 6 core - pickup with windings. (I believe most of p/ups have 6 cores with 1 winding)

(**) the alternative my father suggested was to use logic logic circuit which generates the square signal with the same frequancy as comes from the p/up. On one hand you will get a sound distorted to any degree you like (like using guitar modeller) with practicaly no noice (coming from p/ups). On the other hand (my thoughts...) if you'd like to have a button "on/off" which turns the "effect" on, you will get a weaker signal in "off" mode...fogot the other disadvantage i wanted to mention)

But it also would need a power suply element. And a space in the body to insall all the circuit.

Is anyone aware of a thing like that in America or in other countries?

Phew ... sounds pretty complicated to me. I just twang away through my Boss Overdrive ... works well enough for me.

soviet union had hi educational standarts in phisics (esp. is radio engineering). In 50s lots of people could make most of the househald appliences by themselves. My father is one of them...but now he'll never come back to that "hobby" as he calls it... he gave away all the radio component. It's much easier to by the thing you want than make it yourselfe.
Some of those people became guitar builders and that's a great advantage)
