I am getting the itch to maybe....just maybe, sell my Ovation and get a new acoustic. So, here's a question for ya'll.

Ok, anybody know what the tonal difference would be if an acoustic/electric guitar has a spruce top but has a rosewood back & sides versus one with a mahogany back & sides. Electronics are the same, fretboard, I think is rosewood on both, but one has abalone rectangular inlays while the other has only dots.

UGB, I hope to hear from you as I trust your experience & expertise on guitars, but would like any personal experiences from any others.

It's been my observation selling sibling guitars where one model has a mahogany laminate body and the other has a rosewood laminate body that the mahogany has a smoother, more mellow tone to it and the rosewood is typically crisper, snappier, w/a bit more dynamic punch. If the laminations are just the exterior, there's no difference.

My Seagull cedar top with mahogany sides and back does the smooth mellow tone thing--can't speak for rosewood as I dont have one to compare
