Resonator guitars
Hi
I am interested in buying a resonator guitar of some sort. Can anyone give me some advice on these? Are dobros and steel guitars both called resonators, or do they have different names?
What brands are reasonable to good, and what are to be avoided?
Thanks very much

slightly off topic but i went into the guitar store today and tried a resonator for the very first time! it was loooovely, such a unique tone, quite twangy, quite bright, and just generally very nice very heavy guitars though

I only played one for the first time last week too. I really liked the sound, but the one I played weighed a lot.
I am really wanting to get into slide guitar in a big way at the moment - and I would love to get one for that.

I am slowly working on learning how to play slide guitar. My solution was to get a Jay Turser resophonic guitar. You can find what they look like at http://www.jayturser.com/jt_electric4.htm . It is a funky looking guitar that can give you a good slide tone.
They are also mighty inexpensive, durable, have humbucker & piezo pickups for amplifying. The guitarist for http://www.kingsnakesblues.com/ band uses a Jay Turser for his slide work. Check out some of their music that is online.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
