To Hang Or Not To Hang

What is a good position to put a guitar in when not in use? Hang it on the wall or place it on a guitar stand? Would hanging the instrument on the wall place undo stress on the neck?

Hi Pal !!!

As far as I've been advcied, A Guitar should not be left "leaned against a Wall" for long periods of Time, Hanging on a Wall should be Ok. I guess the Best way is to keep a Guitar in its Case. Just my opinion Pal. Anyways, lets wait for the experts to comment

I hope not, every guitar shop I've been in does it.

Maybe that's why some of their guitars are out of wack!

I have known a guitar shop owner for 30 years. He fixes vintage guitars among other things. He doesn't think twice about hanging very expensive vintage guitars for very long periods of time.

I'd be more worried about the lack of humidity level (during hockey season) being your in Canada

Note for non Canadians, there are only 2 seasons in Canada

Hockey Season and not Hockey Season.

Hi Kush

I find that if I keep my guitar in it's case that I don't pick it up as often. Outta sight, outta mind thing maybe going on.

Tracy

P.S. I currently leave mine against a wall but don't want to damage it. How would I go about hanging it........just use a hook or what? Perhaps a stand would be a good investment? Any advice welcome.

Thanks

I've often wondered about this myself and therefore a while back I asked a similar question about it. In turn, I received a few reliable replies that indicated that putting your guitar in it's case is the preferred option for protection against climatic extremes , but that said, many of the guitar shops around where I live hang their instruments.(not that doing that makes it the right thing to do, but hey, they should know right?)

So maybe it comes down to what suits the individual and how that individual values their own particular guitar.

To hang or not to hang.........you be the judge!

I always just lean my guitar against something. Is that a bad thing?

Not sure! But if that "something" is not too steady, your guitar may fall and possible damage may result.

I use a guitar stand when I'm playing, so that when I want to put the guitar down for whatever reason, then I know it's fairly safe on the stand.

Hi Neil

I was wondering about whether or not to get a stand. I think, based on your response, I'm gonna go for it.

Thanks
Tracy

Hi Tracy

How ya going? Hope you and your family are doin' fine.
Yeah, I don't know how much stands are where you live, but here they can be bought fairly cheap. Around $20-25 AUD.

All the best!
