In a basement setting in a house, what size amp is feasible? Some folks say a combo and I have seen others with a half stack! What are your thoughts on this subject?

My 30watt H&K is way loud-I wouldn't want more unless gigging in a large noisy hall

Yeah, 20 or 30 watts with a single 12 will certainly handle small to medium gigs. That is of course, unless you want pain and hearing loss.

Get an attenuator or a hotplate to tame the volume on loud amps.

I have used my Fender Pro Junior for years. It has been loud enough for playing in a company cafeteria, church fellowship hall, at home, etc. If I need more volume I can just mic it to the PA.

I also have a Genz Benz Shenandoah Junior which has been plenty loud enough for the church where I have used it for the last six months.

Blues guy... Your right... A small 5 watt tube amp is all you need to play most places... Brian May used his 5 Watt Deacy amp for most of his recordings if not all of them... I agree that you would propably need a bigger amp if playing a big hall or an open air concert. Talking purely tube amps I would not go for anything bigger than 30 watt...

Played the AC 30 the other day and it was pure heaven... You should remember that you dont get the true tone out of a tube amp unless you play it at top volume...
