Purchase prospect

Hey all,

Got off work early today so I stopped by the local guitar store. Talked with one of the guys and played around on a (new) Schechter 006 Delux. It sounded good (though I'm not sure I'd know the difference between good and bad) and looks nice. The color is listed as "vampire red" but it seemed pretty mellow and I wouldn't feel weird playing jazz or even blues on it. Worked out a deal where I could get it with a Fender 15G amp, case, 10-year warranty, and standard accesories for just under $500 including tax. I told him I'd think about it and return later in the week.

Is this good equipment and a good deal?

Reviews look good but, the price is all over the place. I will see what I can dig up on the amp.

It is most likely this one. Often sold in packs. Amps sold as part of a package are usualy pretty low quality. In view of the 500 price tag, I would think it is over priced. tht amp sells for 79 bucks so your paying 420 for the guitar. Lots of choices out there in that price range.

This will give you an idea of what Shechter has to offer if you like their tone and style.

The guitar is $300, the amp is $80, so I'm paying $100 for case, cable, strap, 10-year warranty on the guitar, and tax. It's definitely a cheap amp, but I really don't need volume.

300 bucks makes more sense. If you like the tone, feel and look of it than go for it. Easy enough to get a better amp at a later date.

Well, I went ahead and picked this up today. Unfortunately, when I got it home to play I noticed some bad buzzing on the 6th string, less on the 5th, and a bit on all of them if I fret near the middle of the neck. I guess I should take it back to the store to get the action adjusted?

Yup. They should have set it up for you and it probably needs new strings.

Upon further inspection, adjusting the action on this particular guitar entails simply turning some screws, a procedure which I am more than capable of performing. Now, all the fret buzzing is entirely my fault.

Next step, messing around with amp settings until I get it where I like it. Then...
