Ever since I saw Richie Blackmore "back in the day", I told my self
I would get a
Fender Stratocaster. Sadly many years went
by and although I've owned many guitars,
Strat was nowhere to be
counted.
A month or so ago, on an impulse, I decided to take a ride to the local
Guitar World, just to look around (I haven't been in a music store
in a loooong time).
As soon as I walked through the door I was confronted
with that unmistakable body shape and headstock. I checked out the
price tags on the ones closest to me and was surprised to find that they
where all in the $100.0 dollar price range. When the sales person arrived,
I asked him, why so cheap..!? He kindly informed me that these
where "Squire Strats" and proceeded to show me the way to the "real Strats".... Ok...
I now had a choice between the $300.0 to $500.0 "Mexican Strats" and
the $600.0 to $1600.0 "American Strats" (by this time I had made up my
mind to buy one).
I asked the trusty sales guy, why the price difference...!? He again in his infinite
knowledge, and in great detail, wised me up to the fact that "Mexican
wood is much different than American wood... It's the water, you see... Those
trees grow with the help of this nasty water you are not supposed to even
drink, and in consequence it makes for inferior wood...."
Well, armed with that valuable insight, I decided to compare the two and
see for myself how "rank water Strats" compared with "drink me any
time you like, I won't make you sick Strats".
In all honesty, I could not see a difference. They both played and felt equally nice...
Imagine the look of disbelief on my little sale dude's face
when I ignored his advice and decided to purchase the "stankass water Strat".
