Fender Strat

I'd like to round out my stable with a Fender Strat. I've been looking at this model from Musicians Friend for a couple of months. All the stores in my neck of the woods have the inexpensive Strat Pac's which I'm not interested in.

Does anyone have any experience with this model. Fender Standard Strat?
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...ric?sku=510000

This is the one I'm really interested in.

(I'm a sucker for a red guitar)

Anyway, I'd like to hear peoples opinions of the Fender Standard.

Thanks,

Les

I have one and I play it all the time. It plays and feels great. The only complaint I have about it is the quality of the pickups. I may swap them out at some point in time but until then I am more than happy with my Standard Strat.

You may want to consider locking tuners for it as well, as it does have a tendency to come out of tune when you use the trem bar.

Standard Series strats are awesome. I have a Fat Strat and it's a great guitar. I do have to agree with munky about the PUPs but these guitars are extremely well built and play great!

I've had the itch for a strat since last summer.
I asked in a local guitar shop about Mexican made Strats - the owner told me that besides the fact that they won't hold their value like an American made model, the fit and finish has a bit more detail in the higher priced units, not enough of difference as far as my wallet is concerned.

I promptly went and laid away a Mexican made - 2003 model, I think - 1950's re-issue.
I figure that's appropriate since I'm a 50's model too.

Four more weeks 'til get my hot little hands on it!

Ever since I saw Richie Blackmore "back in the day", I told my self
I would get a Fender Stratocaster. Sadly many years went
by and although I've owned many guitars, Strat was nowhere to be
counted.

A month or so ago, on an impulse, I decided to take a ride to the local
Guitar World, just to look around (I haven't been in a music store
in a loooong time).
As soon as I walked through the door I was confronted
with that unmistakable body shape and headstock. I checked out the
price tags on the ones closest to me and was surprised to find that they
where all in the $100.0 dollar price range. When the sales person arrived,
I asked him, why so cheap..!? He kindly informed me that these
where "Squire Strats" and proceeded to show me the way to the "real Strats".... Ok...

I now had a choice between the $300.0 to $500.0 "Mexican Strats" and
the $600.0 to $1600.0 "American Strats" (by this time I had made up my
mind to buy one).

I asked the trusty sales guy, why the price difference...!? He again in his infinite
knowledge, and in great detail, wised me up to the fact that "Mexican
wood is much different than American wood... It's the water, you see... Those
trees grow with the help of this nasty water you are not supposed to even
drink, and in consequence it makes for inferior wood...."

Well, armed with that valuable insight, I decided to compare the two and
see for myself how "rank water Strats" compared with "drink me any
time you like, I won't make you sick Strats".

In all honesty, I could not see a difference. They both played and felt equally nice...
Imagine the look of disbelief on my little sale dude's face
when I ignored his advice and decided to purchase the "stankass water Strat".

LOL. Lots of people out there love their MIM strats. True the build quality is not as high but, at that price you can afford to upgrade the parts and mod it any way you want.

Did he have a smirk on his face?

Was he Actually SERIOUS!?!

I would have laughed in his face and then asked for a different sales person

How did you keep your composure?

Hey guys,

I sincerely appreciate your input. As this is most likely the last guitar I buy, I will heed your advice. I thought the Rickenbacker would be the last, but as we all know guitars are an accumlative disease. The more you acquire the more you become addicted. Like kilts, of which I have three. Certainly not enough for a weeks wear.

Well, I have made a decision and it will be the Fender Strat American Hardtail.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...ric?sku=510591

I have asked the Mrs. for permission and if all goes well within the month I'll have it. If it doesn't go well........... I will be depressed for a few days, regroup, and plan my next attack.

Thanks guys.

You should have asked him what percent of the sale his commission was.
