Too Early For A New Guitar?

Hiya,

I've had my guitar for about 4 years, but never really played it much, just when I was at school (G,C,D) chords etc... I've started back up again and enjoying it, but I would like a new guitar for a more 'meaty sound'. I have a Jim Deacon Strat just now, but would like something which has a heavier sound, something good for playing Guns 'N Roses stuff.

Obviously Les Paul is the guitar for that, but the standards are a little out of my budget just now - what with being a student, car failing MOT etc... I was thinking about an Ibanez GRG170DX. I found it at a local guitar store (check the link) for a decent price.

Thoughts?

How it sounds is one thing, but how it plays and feels to you is way more important. I would never buy a guitar without trying it first. Have you thought about getting an effects peddle? That may be a cheaper option as well.

I actually have a multi effects pedal, but would still like a new guitar. I think it would also encourage me to play more!

Yep I agree it encourages you to play more! I kinda felt myself giving up...but when I bought my S470DX, I was instantly hooked again!

No such thing as "too early for a new guitar"!

If you want a Les Paul but find the Gibsons out of your price range (and I can't blame you!), check out the Epiphone Les Pauls.....very good guitars at much more reasonable prices.

Thumbs up

"If you need that extra motivation just go ahead and get it."

My motivation was in the form of a DSO show. God their an awesome band and while they are doing covers of Dead Shows, they still rocked. The next day, I picked my guitar back up and have loved it since. Sadly, I would love another Axe but I need to love this one a little longer. After having it for 5+ years, I am finally able to get some feeling from it. I was playing it last night and like worn jeans, she felt right.

If the opportunity to get a new guitar is there steven I personally would take it +1 to the above if you feel it will help you with your playing it's a good thing, might be worth trying a few out though if you've got a store nearby, good excuse to play loads of guitars

Sorry to keep this thread growing, but I am excited about this stuff...

Oh - I have one more inspiration:
Dy-sphoric: This thing called: Music....
I don't use my blog that much, I have updated it recently.

Yes - that is my son on MY guitar. And he is getting one for Christmas and he is just 3...I want to make sure that he has a better chance of becoming a Rock star than I had.

New stuff always encourages me to play more. And I don't need any more of a reason that that!
