There are all kinds of "wireless systems", what type might you be asking about?

Well, I am not familiar with that system but I cannot see why it would not work in a basement as long as the transmitter and receiver are both in the basement.

Yeah, I guess there wasn't enough info in the original question, but as long as the trans and rec are within range of each other it shouldn't matter if you're on a roof or in a basement.
It's all good.
