Hi Rocker13, Check out this link to Tekkers lessons, there's a lot of information on mics and recording there, he's very good, also check out the home studio forum, there's stacks of information in there from Members with a lot of recording experience.

I highly recommend the Audio Technica 2041SP pack. You get a condenser mic and dynamic mic. I have the condenser mic positioned at about the 14th fret and dynamic mic pointing at the saddle. Very clean sound.
They are relatively inexpensive for the quality you get. Plus the condenser mic is great for vocals also.
cheers

Hey, hey Rocker13!

I think we started out talking about recording your acoustic and then got side tracked about recording your guitar amp and never got back to it. You were wanting a mic for both acoustic and electric, but since you can plug the amp straight in, that opens things up for the acoustic so you can get an ideal mic for it.

I don't think you mentioned how much you wanted to spend on the acoustic mic though. There are lots of mics that will work great on acoustic at various price ranges.

That's perfect for the mic I was thinking about.

Marshal MXL 604 ($99)

Since that mic is a condenser mic, you'll need a mic preamp with phantom power to run the mic. So to go with it you can get an Art Tube MP ($40).

The Guitar Center here will probably have the Art Tube MP preamp, so you can save a little on shipping if they have it for that price, but you'll probably have to order the MXL 604 online. I like really zZounds, I've ordered from them several times and they are very good!
