Customizing a Gretsch
Hey guys, I've been thinking of customizing my Gretsch guitar. Any suggestions??

What are you looking for that's missing? I would never customize just to customize. Only if I have a specific purpose in mind.

I'm not missing anything, I just want to continue to work to my signature sound. I already know the Gretsch, the Reverb, driven amp and slide help, I'm just going the extra step for the signature tone.

So are you thinking new pups or adding a Bigsby? A friend of mine had stainless steel frets put on his and he is very pleased.

I think I'm gonna go for new pickups (TV Jones Power'trons hopefully) a die for the volume control, pickup covers (one dog-eared style a-la Eddie Cochran) and maybe my name in the frets (I think Lefty Frizzell did that).
Stainless steel, huh? That's interesting.

But no actual P-90 like Cochran used? Shucks.
The name in the neck thing was pretty popular among rockabilly folks in the late '50s. Last year I had the privilege of getting acquainted with one such instrument, Larry Collins' double-necked Mosrite. Very cool guitar!

A Bogner Shiva is the perfect amp for your guitar. A friend of mine plays his G. through a Shiva and it brings tears to his eyes.

There seem to be a lot of guys on the Dr. Z forum that are very fond of a Gretsch through a 'Z also.

What model?
I think the most radical I'd go on a Gretsch is TVJones unless you 've got Gretsch's to spare. Oh and get the tee shirt too! The TVJones tee is way cool I've got stock Filtertrons and they swing Setzer hot or Atkin's cool.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
