String tension too tight?

So here is a question, and not sure if the wording on the title is wrong or not.

The Fender Montara I recently purchased is now back from the Luthier, picked it up on Christmas Eve day. The neck has been straightened, electronics cleaned up, new bone nut installed, bridge straightened out, etc. Basically all the little things that were never fixed before the last owner shelved it for about 8-9 years.

Anyway, I have the same gauge of Elixir strings that I had on my Ibanez AEF30, but the "tension" on the strings on the Fender seems way tighter...

By comparison, tuning both the guitars to standard pitch, if you play the Ibanez the strings seem as if you were tuned lower, they are more loose/have more play to them or something. This is something I've never noticed when playing other guitars before. And I should add that I have checked the tuning frequently on the Montara while playing and it remains in tune too.

Am I losing my mind? Shouldn't a string tuned to standard 440 pitch about the same tension on every guitar? And again, if I am using the wrong terminology for any of this I apologize, just trying to explain it as I see it.

Sometimes if the nut slots are not so deep, it can feel like the strings have a higher tension. See how many sheets of paper (or rizlas) you can get between the string and the top of the first fret to do a rough comparison.

It could be that the guitars have a different scale length ie. the actual length of the vibrating string. This does vary between makes of guitar and will influence the tension of the strings for a given pitch.

Alll other things being equal, a string that is longer will need to be tighter to reach a given pitch than a shorter one - even though the difference may only be an inch.

Thanx Ben and wjp for that info, I can certainly check those two things against both guitars and see what lines up.
