String Benders?

I was just setting here listening to a Brad Paisley song and I jumped on his website of which he has a link to see the gear he uses. Now I am curious (I searched and could seem to find it on here already and wasn't exactly sure what to look for) - (yes, I have heard of them) but I am not sure what they do. Could someone explain what it is and what it does?

Thanks.

There are a few different benders on the market - usually either "B-Benders" or "G-Benders". They have a mechanism attached to the appropriate saddle on the bridge (the G or B string) that acts almost like a "whammy bar" when activated, but only on that one string. The ones Brad Paisley uses are attached by a lever to a strap button on the back of the neckplate, and activated by moving the guitar in a way that pulls on the lever via the guitar strap, which then moves the bridge saddle and creates a string bend. The sound alteration is useful for doing "pedal steel" sounds when playing double-stops and bending that one string.

There was a great article in the December "Guitar Player" magazine in which Brad discussed his gear extensively. He said he mostly uses G-Benders, but has a couple guitars with B-Benders on them also.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
