Free recording software?
My girlfriend and I are playing our first songs together (she plays violin/fiddle) and I wanted to know if anybody had recommendations for free and easy recording software. Windows sound recorder can only do wavs up to 60 seconds :/ Thank you!

Awesome, thanks for the quick and detailed response!
I felt dumb asking this question; I used to be an online DJ a number of years ago and everything was recorded using the nullsoft shoutcast method, and edited with soundforge if need be. But since I don't have either software anymore, I figured there had to be an easier way. Thanks!

Be sure to check out the "Home Studio" sub-forum further down the board, too - there is a lot of useful information about recording in there!

I`d suggest Reaper - it`s shareware ( fully functional and unlimited though )
It`s a fully featured programme that comes with a lot of features that you`ll probably not use at first, but there is plenty of documentation and a Wiki to walk you through the recording process.

I am a BIG fan of Audacity - very user friendly I think. I'm curious about the other programs mentioned though. Someday I'll probably give them a go.
For me, I remember before discovering Audacity... I would let Windows Sound Recorder record for 60 seconds then click the record button again after 60 seconds then continued until I felt I had enough time to work with. It worked for awhile but when I wanted to combine two different recordings, now THAT was difficult. With Audacity though... that thing does wonders, and it's FREE!

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
